A Decade of Development

Picture

The Trustees of St Andrews have adopted an ambitious "Decade of Development" plan, with the aim of renewing every aspect of the life of St Andrews, and work over the next decade. A Development Group has been established, and it has formulated plans for annual events, special initiatives, and phased building redevelopments.

Life is on hold in COVD 19.  We ask for your prayers as we seek God's guidance and help as we seek to serve God in our particular call to be a people witnessing to the Good News of Christ in Aberdeen and beyond.

Our Mission
The Mission of St Andrew’s is to be a focus of Christian worship and witness in and for the City of Aberdeen, and to be a Mother Church for the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. This mission implies a sacred obligation -- to embody and maintain the rich tradition of Anglican liturgy and music; to offer spiritual hospitality as a house of prayer for a diversity of people; to reach out in hope, bringing help to social groups with special needs; and to embrace and enhance the Cathedral’s architectural heritage.

Our Vision 2020
The Cathedral’s vision is encapsulated in the slogan “Serving God in the City: a Flagship of the Spirit”. This slogan signals our aspiration to renew the St Andrew's life and significantly raise its profile over a decade . To accomplish this, we have launched a regular series of special events, some key initiatives for the longer term, and a phased programme of building restoration projects.

INITIATIVES FOR THE LONGER TERM

  1. encourages Christian devotion among visitors to the region;
  2. builds connections with other historic Christian sites in the North East;
  3. offers hospitality to visiting choirs singing summer services, especially from the US;
  4. strengthens connections with and support from American Episcopalians;
  5. raises funds for the proposed renovated Seabury Pilgrimage Chapel.

     Cathedral Song School Developing an enhanced role for the Cathedral that:
  1. Sustains and strengthens the life and exploits the musical expertise of the Cathedral;
  2. Provides singing and organ scholarships for children and students;
  3. Offers workshops for church musicians;
  4. Organizes occasional conferences/meetings in conjunction with local universities and national organizations;
  5. Raises money for the creation of first class facilities in Seabury House.

A Prayer for the Decade of Development
 Almighty God, who is ready to be heard by those who have not asked, and ready to be found by those who have not sought, look favorably we pray on this your Cathedral Church of St Andrew the Apostle.
